Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat on 5 February – Significance and Rituals – Vedaangam

On 5 February, the sacred Sankashti Chaturthi fast of the Krishna Paksha will be observed. According to the scriptures, this vrat helps remove the negative effects of the past 15 days and opens the path to happiness, prosperity, and good fortune for the coming 15 days. The fast should be observed with devotion starting from sunrise. In the evening, after moon/Chandra Darshan, offer arghya to the Moon and perform the worship of Lord Shri Ganesha. The vrat is considered complete only after performing the puja following moon Darshan. There is often confusion that the moon should not be seen on Chaturthi. However, this rule applies only to Ganesh Chaturthi in the month of Bhadrapada. On all other monthly Sankashti Chaturthi, moon Darshan is considered highly auspicious and meritorious.
